Each Peach Pear Plum cloth book

Janet and Allan Ahlberg have written many books for babies and small children. One of them, Peepo is on our shelf of favourites.  Also on those shelves is Each Peach Pear Plum which has a bit of fun with fairy tale characters.  We have had it in board book and paperback for years, but it has just come out in a cuddly plush cloth book.  It is in a gift box making it perfect as a gift for a new baby.

It is also a bit of a bargain, at $16.95.

PS.  We put up a video of Allan Ahlberg reading Peepo on our Pinterest page. It’s well worth a look!

‘The Duckling Gets a Cookie!? ‘ A seriously adorable book!

The Duckling Gets A Cookie!?

by Mo Willems, PB $14.95

This series of books could not be any cuter and funnier if they tried!!!!

When the adorable little chicken asks politely for a cookie and gets one, Pigeon is NOT a happy chappy. He doesn’t get to drive the bus, eat a hotdog or stay up late and now he doesn’t get a cookie!

Mo Willems minimal, quirky but sweet illustrations make this picture book really beautiful and unique.

Check out the other great books in the Pigeon series…

A New Favourite

Eric Carle, of Very Hungry Caterpillar fame, has a lovely new picture book out for toddlers to four year olds.

It is called The Artist Who Painted a Blue Horse, and it encourages children to explore artistic freedom and break through the shackles of conventional colouring-in!  Definitely something we should all aspire to do!

This gorgeous, large-size hardback is full of illustrations of favourite animals in not-so-conventional colours.  Along with the horse who is very blue, you’ll find a bright green lion, a purple fox, and even a polka-dotted donkey!  As we have come to expect from Carle’s books, the pictures are extremely engaging and will inspire your little ones to reach out and touch the vivid images in front of them.  Come and have a look for yourself!!

Nana’s Colours

A Beautiful Introduction to the Wonder of Colours!

The much-loved children’s author Pamela Allen (of Who Sank the Boat, Hetty’s Day Out, and I Wish I had a Pirate Suit fame, to name a few!) is back with another gloriously illustrated hardback picture book for early learners (6 to 24 months).

It’s Nana’s birthday and she is being given many beautiful bunches of flowers in various colours.  The illustrations look like the’ve been made by cut-out shapes of raw potato dipped in paint, remember making those in kindergarten?! A great introduction for infants and toddlers.

Alison Jay’s cloth book

Alison Jay is an illustrator whose board books are amongst our favourites  at Fairfieldbooks.  She has an ABC, a 123, Fairy tales and some others.   Her new book features animals and is a cloth book instead of the large sized heavy board books we are used to.  Cloth books can be given to the smallest of babies, and you won’t have to worry about a baby dropping it on it’s head!  A cloth book is also practical as it can be washed after all that inevitable sucking it has endured.  A lovely book for a new baby. $14.95
