The Paper Dolls

Julia Donaldson has branched out from her tried and tested collaborations with Axel Scheffler (The Gruffalo, Superworm) with her new book, The Paper Dolls. This whimsical story about the power of imagination and the wonder children find in the simplest things is illustrated by the talented Rebecca Cobb. This is simply a lovely story accompanied by lovely illustrations of Ticky and Tacky, and Jackie the Backie, and Jim with two noses and Jo with the bow. A great story of kids, especially girls, aged 3-6. You might have paper dolls lying around the house but stimulating your kids imagination might be worth it.

Schleffer & Donaldson team up again in SUPERWORM

From the hugely successful team behind The Gruffalo, The Snail and the Whale, Tiddler and many more we have Superworm! Julia Donaldson has teamed up with Axel Scheffler once again to bring another distinctive picture book for kids around 3 years and up. A rhyming story about a super-long worm with superpowers, what could go wrong?

This is a really fun story about helping out others when you can and the power of teamwork, set in the somewhat unlikely world of insects. The rhyming makes it flow really nicely with repetition making it a great one for reading aloud and joining in. I think Superworm is set to be just as popular as other books from the Donaldson/Scheffler team. Hardback, $25.

Stupid Baby!

Stephanie Blake was the brains behind Poo Bum and now she has a new book, this one for kids with new siblings. Simon is a young rabbit whose little brother has been home from hospital for three. whole. days. The cute illustrations have shades of Miffy styling about them, though maybe all cute rabbits have shades of Miffy. The bright text and smart use of typographic devises gets the emphasis of the speech just right. Simon just can’t believe he has to be quite because of the Stupid Baby. But in the night when the big bad wolves come, Simon realises that he needs to protect his little brother…and maybe get some company out of it himself.

A cute story about being a big brother, paperback,$17.
