Vampires Suck

Claire Danvers is an advanced placement college student at Texas Prairie University in the slightly odd city of Morganville. But Morganville isn’t any ordinary college town, and its not long before Claire is in some serious trouble from the campus bullies. Little ol’ Claire might have bitten off more than she can chew by making an enemy of Monica Morrell of all people, and she’s going to find out the hard way.

Morganville is run by vampires. No kidding. Not friendly, sparkle in the sun kind of vampires. These guys will suck your blood, kill your family, and all that jazz.

If you’re not one of them, unless you’re Protected, like Monica, you’d better be doing your best to stay under the radar. So when the surprisingly fiesty Claire manages to make Monica look stupid, it’s pretty much all downhill from there.

After being thrown down some stairs and acquiring a few fetching bruises Claire decides its time to move off campus. At the corner of Gone With The Wind and The Munsters, she find The Glass House. Mysterious Michael Glass, goth Eve Rosser and Monica-hating Shane Collins need help with the rent and are, bonus, no

t sporting superfluous canines. But Claire’s pissed off the wrong people and then Shane does something stupid and where the HELL does Michael go during the day?!

I didn’t have to read much of Glass Houses by Rachel Caine before I really, really wanted to know what happened to these really likeable characters. With a little bit of unresolved sexual tension to keep things interesting, some seriously angry vampires and some well thought out old school vampire lore, this book returns to a more traditional idea of vampires. They’re cold, evil and hungry. Humans are their prey and their slaves. Brainiac Claire Danvers isn’t exactly the kind of person you’d expect to turn this town on its head, but she has. And now things are about to get REALLY interesting because Claire’s found something the vampires have been looking for for a long, long time. Its only after an attempted torching, many many many near death experiences and countless bowls of chilli, that you realise its a SERIES and Glass Houses is only the first book. A rollicking good time, each of the Morganville Vampire Series are $16.95 and number ten is coming out in May.
